Abstract
The metal organic frameworks are highly adaptable materials that are utilized in the manufacturing of functional materials as main materials or as derivatives and add unique morphological and structural properties to them. MOFs are fabricated carefully to attain fine properties and possible utility into advanced technologies. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of MOF elemental composition, surface area, pore size and pore distribution is essential to properly exploit its utility in diverse applications and further finely tune their characteristics. A plethora of spectroscopic, diffraction and microscopic techniques are available in order to fully analyze the porosity and textural properties along with accessing the thermal and chemical stability of materials. The review focus is to enlist the analytical techniques which provide fundamental information about the MOF frameworks. Sample preparation protocols for each technique have been discussed along with the drawbacks associated with each technique. The review also provides comparative analysis between techniques by focusing on the shortcomings of techniques.
